The Final Note

Join the Dream

Friends,

Music Director Carlos Kalmar recently created an artistic mission for the Oregon Symphony. It has three main objectives, all of which are aimed to ultimately touch the souls of Oregonians:

  • Achieve the status as the flagship cultural institution of Oregon with international recognition of the orchestra’s unique style and artistic superiority
  • Provide personal development for each musician
  • Strengthen our relationship with the citizens of Oregon by providing meaningful, relevant and exciting programming for all ages

This season’s standing ovations, strong ticket sales, filled seats and positive reviews all confirm the progress that is being made to meet these objectives.

Our dream is to have a superior orchestra in the heart of Portland’s cultural district—one that continues to enhance the quality of life in our region as a source of great local pride.

It is typical for orchestras to cover only part of their expenses with ticket sales. In our case, sales cover only 41% of expenses. The other 59% must be covered by regular contributions from private donors, foundations and corporations.

Please join the patrons on pages 30-35 who are investing in the Oregon Symphony with their regular financial support. Join us in The Dream.

Enjoy tonight’s performance,

Walter E. Weyler, Chairman
Oregon Symphony Board of Directors
