FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OREGON SYMPHONY CONTINUES KIDS CONCERT SERIES WITH “JABBERWOCKY”

Portland, Ore. … “Twas brillig, and the slithy toves did gyre and gimble in the wabe: All mimsy were the borogoves, and the mome raths outgrabe.”

The opening words to this Lewis Carroll poem may sound like gibberish, but the next Oregon Symphony Kids Concert will bring to life, with help from the audience, the mythical battle with the monster otherwise known as “Jabberwocky.” The concert is Sunday, January 7 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall.

Tales & Scales™, the nation’s only musictelling ensemble, will illustrate the percussive monster from three different perspectives using various instruments. Based in Indiana, the troupe of four musicians travels the country each year performing with symphony orchestras and in schools. The group has been featured on National Pubic Radio’s Morning Edition and Talk of the Nation.

Guest conductor George Garrett Keast will lead the Symphony during the “Jabberwocky” program. Keast served as assistant conductor of the Dallas Opera last year, and is currently guest conducting numerous orchestras around the country.

Tickets range from $6 to $38 and may be purchased at the Oregon Symphony Ticket Office, located at 923 S.W. Washington.  Ticket office hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Tickets can be charged by phone at (503) 228-1353 or (800) 228-7343, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.   Discounted tickets for groups of eight or more are available through the group sales hotline at (503) 416-6380.  For more information, visit the Symphony’s website at www.orsymphony.org.
