Concert Conversations

Have you ever wondered what inspired Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 1, or how exactly a theme and variations works? Here’s your chance to find out. Join Music Director Carlos Kalmar, Resident Conductor Gregory Vajda, Oregon Symphony Musicians and Guest Conductors as they engage in lively discussions with on air radio hosts from AllClassical FM about the works, the composers and historic perspectives. These 30 minute pre-concert conversations take place in the concert hall one hour prior to each classical series concert.

Backstage Tours

Backstage Tours provide an opportunity for school and community groups to come inside the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, explore behind the scenes, and get a feel for what it's like to arrive at the hall as a musician. During the one-hour tour groups learn about the history of the building and the orchestra, and sit in on a working rehearsal. There is also the opportunity to spend a short time with a musician and hear a bit about how they became a professional musician with the Oregon Symphony. Backstage tours are free of charge.

Preludes

Oregon Symphony Preludes offer youth and community ensembles the opportunity to perform in the lobby at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall before classical series concerts. Ensembles present 20 minutes of music for concertgoers as they arrive at the hall. For most concerts, complimentary tickets are provided to the performers for the evening’s concert.

Ensembles perform from 7:00-7:20 PM on Saturday and Sunday nights and from 7:30-7:50 PM on Monday nights. Occasionally a prelude group will perform prior to a Sunday matinee or Kids concert.
