Julie Coleman

Violin

Violinist Julie Coleman began playing with the Oregon Symphony in 1993. Born in Newberg, Ore., she returned to the Northwest after attending The Julliard School. She is currently Adjunct Professor of Violin at Portland State University, a position she has held since 1999.

Julie has toured internationally with the American Sinfonietta and also with the San Diego-based Mainly Mozart Orchestra. This summer will mark her third year with the Grand Teton Music Festival in Wyoming, where she has also appeared with colleagues on a chamber music series at Walk Festival Hall. Previous festivals include the Bellingham Festival in Washington State, Cascade Music Festival and Aspen Music Festival and School.

As soloist, Julie has appeared with the Oregon Symphony, Chico Symphony ( Calif.), Aspen Young Artist Orchestra and Portland Youth Philharmonic, among others. An alumnus of the Portland Youth Philharmonic, Julie was invited to sit concertmaster of the PYP Alumni Orchestra. Other engagements as concertmaster include the Columbia and Yaquina Symphony Orchestras.

A member of Fear No Music, Julie enjoys working with colleagues Erin Furbee, Jo ël Belgique, Nancy Ives, Mika Sunago and Joel Bluestone. Occasionally she also plays with the wildly popular Portland-based band Pink Martini with violinist Paloma Griffin.

Julie plays on a G.B. Rogeri violin made in 1667.
